About Us
Julie Johnson, LPC, NCC
Owner & Psychotherapist
I'm Julie, and I'm a licensed psychotherapist in Virginia. I'm originally from North Carolina, and take a lot of pride in my southern roots! I received my bachelors degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and my masters degree in counseling from Liberty University. I have almost nine years of experience working in community-based mental health, including crisis stabilization, suicidal and self-harm concerns, and case management.
I have experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Exposure & Response Prevention Therapy (ERP), Solution-focused Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). For those interested, I also offer Christian-based Therapy. I enjoy implementing traditional talk psychotherapy, but I also love implementing art, music, writing, and game activities in my therapeutic treatment as well.
I'm bubbly, warm, and energetic during sessions. I love building therapeutic relationships with all my patients. It's very difficult to offend me. Crying, frustration, and other healthy methods of expression are safe and welcome in my sessions. While I'm patient, validating, and empathetic, I will also be direct, assertive, and challenging, when necessary. I'm a firm believer that, as a psychotherapist, it's also my responsibility to educate my patients, and protect their rights as well.
